an interesting realization.

i was thinking about the people i found attractive. i thought of something they all have in common.

(yeah, i watched brokeback mountain a few days ago)

so, have you noticed anything that these three beautiful people have in common?

no?

here's a hint.
the only one of my favourite people i can think of right now who does not fit here is the wonderful lee pace. here he is:
pretty goodlooking, yes?

but what if he looked like this?
OMGLOVE.

in conclusion: facial moles are teh sexy.

life drawings. warning: naked.

these are from drawing class second semester, which was mostly drawing from nude models. if you don't like the naked, look away now.

as always, click for full view, which is way better.

we were supposed to convey an emotion, sad and moody.

a blind contour with proportions gone wrong. his stance just begged for the caption, no?

and this was, obviously, not drawn from life. 'tis my little sister, and perhaps one of my favourite drawings i've done, ever.

look, some art.

i have not yet posted anything from semester number two at mount allison. so, here are some paintings. i only have a couple, because i am no painter and i threw most of them out.

click for full-size. i recommend it.

a still life. i didn't completely hate this.

a "narrative" painting, based on the song "a day in the graveyard II" by, of course, sunset rubdown.
i chose it because i feel like if i were to make a movie about my life, this song would be in the trailer. i don't know why, that was just my reaction from the first time i heard it.

this is the song, ignore the video, which is just some guy filming veteran memorials. unless you like it, then that's cool too.

and that's all i have for paintings right now.

my new favourite: sunset rubdown- dragonslayer.

i believe in growing old with grace.
i believe she only loved my face.
i believe i acted like a child, making faces at acquired taste.

spencer krug.
god, i love that man.

seeing this band live is probably one of the top things on my list of things to do in my lifetime. things like this are why i hate living in this corner of the country.

in other news, the library gave my job away before i got to them. that's kind of sucky. but on the bright side, there's a job making yarn that seems fairly promising. except it's 20 minutes out of town. but making yarn? as a job? awesome.

it's may now.

school is done, i don't have a job yet, and i have several weeks until i will if the library hires me again. so these next few weeks will be filled with lots of spare time in which i can release all that creative energy bubbling up inside me. or at least try to do something productive.

cool thing: today, i got my pictures from my trip to new york and prom developed. new york was the start of march, prom was last year. i love me some film photography, it just takes me forever to get around to developing it.

i love how colour photos turn out with my camera, a pentax spotmatic (which, according to my research, is from around 1964). they look so soft and dreamy. of course, that also has to do with my always having the aperture set to 1.4, due to both my love of a shallow depth of field and need for a fast shutter speed due to my shaky hands.

plans for the summer:
-shoot film. around town, at animaland, swimming in waterford.
-dye some yarn, possibly open an etsy shop with recycled yarn and things.
-perhaps also include vintage/modified vintage clothing in that etsy shop.
-yard sale it up, bigtime.
-find a bicycle. spray-paint it bright blue.
-make sure to not stop making art.

lately.

it's been stressful.

last week, i was struggling to finish all my work and hand in my last few projects, including a few all-night painting and sculpture sprees. then, it was time to study for art history, which i had my exam for saturday morning. i have a take-home exam for my religion class that's due monday and i was going to start it saturday, but my plans got derailed when i got a call form my dad, saying my grandfather was really sick, and the family had been called together. he was diagnosed with lung cancer only two weeks or so ago. he died early this morning. thankfully, my prof is giving me an extension on my exam until friday, then i'll be all done. i wish i could skip the rest of this week. or have someone come and take my place while i sleep through it.

so tomorrow i have to go back up to sackville and move all my stuff out of my room and check out. that'll be interesting. but at least i'll never have to sleep in that crowded little room and put up with a roommate ever again.

and the third post for the day...

so tonight, i'm hanging out in my room. there's a semi-formal for my residence going on, but since i never really got to know anyone in good old bennett house, i'm not attending. the only somewhat enticing thing about it was the occasion to get dressed up, so i decided to just do that by myself. so here i am, in my black dress and fur stole, wearing over-the-top red lipstick and blue eyeshadow, and listening to the cabaret soundtrack, wishing i lived in the jazz era. and also that the amelia earhart hat i knit on the way to new york made sense and resembled a hat.

"what good is sitting alone in your room? come hear the music play. life is a cabaret, old chum, come to the cabaret. put down the knitting, the books, and the broom. life is a cabaret, old chum, come to the cabaret!"

hmm.

(that's how i tried to do my makeup. it doesn't work so well on a small-featured ginger kid.)

art post: some older things.

here are some paintings and drawings from the year 2008, in reverse chronological order.
(if you click on them, you can see them much better.)

this was my final project for elements of art class last semester. pen, watercolour, acrylic, pencil and thread on paper.

my first painting at mta. i don't really like it. acrylic on paper.

an assignment to focus on the negative space. watercolour on newspaper on pencil on paper.

one painting i don't actually hate. from the end of grade twelve, painted from observation during a school "river festival". i got frustrated with the whole landscape and came up with this. acrylic on canvas.

a quick blind contour sketch of myself that i liked. pen, watercolour, embroidery on paper.

i have lots of newer stuff i want to post, but i don't have photos of it, and i forgot my camera at home after my trip to new york a few weeks ago. so lots more is coming in two or three weeks when i get it back.

i'm mildly crazy.

i did a personality disorder test. apparently, i am afraid of getting too close to others because of a fear of rejection, with a side of ocd and mild schizophrenia. the first was not surprising, but i found the next two pretty interesting.

Disorder | Rating
Paranoid: Moderate
Schizoid: Moderate
Schizotypal: High
Antisocial: Low
Borderline: Low
Histrionic: Low
Narcissistic: Low
Avoidant: Very High
Dependent: Moderate
Obsessive-Compulsive: High

but there was one question that i think could have summed up the entire test for me:
"Do you yearn for intimate relationships yet feel that you are too socially inept to obtain them?"
that's pretty much my entire life.

what i'm listening to lately.

here are some things i'm liking lately. this edition: music.

handsome furs. i've loved them since their first album came out, but their new one, face control, came out a few weeks ago and is also fantastic. plague park, their first is also wonderful. of course, i love anything that any member of wolf parade touches. which brings me to my next album.

swan lake consists of spencer krug from wolf parade, carey mercer from frog eyes, and dan bejar from destroyer/new pornographers. their first album is one of my favourites ever, and their second just came out today. i've just downloaded it and gotten through two songs, and love it already. wow.

next, i'm on a musical kick.

cabaret. i freaking love liza minnelli. that is all.

wicked. i was so lucky as to see this on broadway a few weeks ago, after years of loving the music. and it was hands down the best and most emotional musical i've ever seen. i cried before the end of the first song. i was worried that the current cast would be disappointing because they weren't idina menzel and kristen chenoweth, but they were both just as great. galinda was a bit girly for my tastes, but elphaba was wonderful.
(that's me with nicole parker, who played elphaba. i'm cool.)

and last, but not least...

okay. bat boy the musical. it sounds ridiculous, but hear me out on this. my university put on a production of this musical last week, and i actually fell in love with it. it's awesome in a musical-about-something-ridiculous-and-kind-of-gory-but-it's-actually-hilarious-and-sweet-and-heartbreaking kind of way. like my favourite musical ever, little shop of horrors. the music is actually really good, and the show itself is hilarious. the song "children, children" was perhaps the funniest scene in a play i've ever seen. it's amazing. definietly see it if you ever have a chance.
